Dear beginners – I’ve been reminded of the pain…..

I’m going through rebuilding a callous now, I haven’t had to do this since I was a young rocker…..ARRRGGGGGGGGGGGG THIS HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So about 6 weeks ago (maybe 7? I can’t remember) I was cutting some vegetables for dinner and sliced my index finger on my fretting finger RIGHT through the middle…..THE MIDDLE!! Once it was medi-taped up I had 6 days for it to heal before I left for a 26 show in 26 day run, you heard that right! The first 7-10 days were just OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH and then the pain went away and I got happy, and then the worst part started….my callous on my index finger came right off!!

So here I am, 35 years old and playing since I was 10 and in my mind I can play at a certain level. I KNOW I can play at this level, I literally did it last week ya know?! All of a sudden I can’t without having EXTREME pain. Every time I would do fast thrash with Toxic Holocaust or a few weeks later when I’d do bends with Jasta in B standard or ANY time I solo’d I would feel it……this agonizing push on my index finger saying “YOU CAN’T DO THAT! OWWWIEE!!!”
So why am I telling you all this? Honestly, I forgot all about it! I remember it being a slight pain in the butt as a kid, but I don’t remember THIS. I wanted to inform any beginner that I’m now being reminded, and I feel your pain…..just remember that pain doesn’t last forever. Hell, it’s such a small pain I forgot about it!!

KEEP PLAYING!
FIGHT THE PAIN!
IT WON’T LAST FOREVER!
YOU WILL BEAT IT!!
